World of Warcraft Shartuul Event Complete Guide: Part 2

Phase 3 - Eye of Shartuul

When you defeat the Shivan Assassin and took control of it, a portal will open outside of the 'arena'. This portal summons Shartuul to the location to watch over what is happening and send more reinforcements. At this point, Shartuul will summon a beholder-like boss called Eye of Shartuul at the left side of the transporter. This starts the 3rd phase.

Boss Strategy:

This is one of the most easiest phases in the Shartuul event. Start off with Aspect of the Shadow. As soon as you can engage the Eye of Shartuul, immediately apply a Siphon Life and cast Shadow Nova while in a close range from it (but not too close, or you can get hit by its Tongue Lash and gain a debuff increasing magic damage taken by 50%). As soon as these 2 spells are applied, change to Aspect of Flame and start stacking up Flame Buffets on it while staying away from its melee range. If ever you get a debuff from him, cleanse it right away.

Keep on moving and when it starts to fire a yellow beam on the ground where you're stepping on, move away immediately. This is its Disruption Ray ability which sets up a stun trap on that location. If you stand in the trap's location, you will get periodically stunned, so keep away from these. Keep stacking Flame Buffets and casting Pyroblast while waiting for the Flame Buffet cooldown until he starts a raid warning-like emote "Eye of Shartuul focuses intensely!". When you see this, the Eye of Shartuul is about to cast Dark Glare, which is an ability that deals huge damage. Switch over to Aspect of the Ice as soon as you see the emote, and cast Ice Block when there is less than 4 seconds left on its Dark Glare casting. When he casts it, the spell will get reflected and will deal moderate damage to the eye, while you stay unharmed.

As soon as you get out of Ice Block, wait for the Aspect of the Shadow cooldown and switch over to it when its finally up. Once you're back to Aspect of the Shadow, cast Death Blast immediately and wait for the Siphon Life debuff to get consumed and heal you. As soon as it gets consumed, reapply Siphon Life and repeat the cycle. Shift to Flame aspect, stack up Flame Buffets and cast Pyroblasts while kiting, switch to Ice aspect and use Ice Block when it starts to cast Dark Glare, then return to Shadow aspect to cast Death Blast to heal up. Rinse and repeat. Just avoid the Disruption Ray traps and keep your distance from the eye and this boss fight is a piece of cake.

Phase 4 - Dreadmaw

After defeating the Eye of Shartuul, Shartuul will send out another boss immediately. This time, its a corehound-like boss called Dreadmaw which Shartuul summons at the right side of the transporter.

Boss Strategy:

The easiest phase in all of Shartuul event. You just need to kite this slow-moving hound all around the place. Just like the previous boss, start of with Aspect of the Shadow to put Siphon Life up on it. After applying Siphon Life, switch over to Aspect of Flame and start kiting. Dreadmaw moves very, very, very slow so you shouldn't have problems kiting in Flame aspect. Stack up Flame Buffets and hit it with Pyroblasts from a distance. When he finally emotes "Dreadmaw lashes out...", he will charge at you and apply a debuff that slows down your movement. When this happens, cleanse it quick and move out of his melee range.

Switch over back to Aspect of the Shadow and cast Death Blast to keep yourself topped off. Wait for the Siphon Life to get consumed before reapplying so it won't go to waste and get a kiting sequence done without a Siphon Life up. Rinse and repeat. This phase only involves switching to 2 aspects so its very easy. Throughout the fight, you will notice Dreadmaw growing in size. This increases its physical damage, but don't let it intimidate you and just continue kiting. He shouldn't reach you within melee range, except when he lashes out and charges on to you. At that point, just cleanse immediately and resume kiting.

Final Phase - Shartuul

After defeating his two pets, Shartuul will now enter the field and deal with you himself. But before entering, he will throw out a large ball on top of the transporter which will disintegrate and spread out on to the arena. These small bits eventually becomes Fel Eye Stalks, which casts Mind Flay on you if you're within range from them. A single Shadow Nova will clear out an area of the Fel Eye Stalks, so you'll be safe from the Mind Flays. Shartuul refreshes the eye stalks periodically so get ready for them. Shartuul is a caster boss, so you don't have to do any kiting here. Instead, you just need to clear out an area of Fel Stalks and stand there safely without Mind Flays. Its recommended to clear out the area near Shartuul, so if ever he casts Magnetic Pull, you're still safe from eye stalks' Mind Flays.

Shartuul's Abilities:

Shadowbolt - Shartuul's main offensive spell. He will be casting this spell almost always. Deals weak shadow damage.

Shadow Resonance - Shartuul's debuff spell that he casts occasionally. It increases shadow damage taken by 10000. Can stack up to 3. Should be removed immediately by Cleansing Flame.

Immolate - Shartuul's secondary offensive spell. He will cast this occasionally. Deals moderate fire damage and leaves a DoT on the Shivan Assassin which deals around 1% per tick for 21 seconds. This can really drain the life of the Shivan Assassin if not cleansed immediately.

Magnetic Pull - Shartuul's ability which instantly pulls you to his current location. Also, as soon as you get pulled, Shartuul will teleport to a different location in the arena. Can be bad if he pulls you to a location filled with eye stalks.

Incinerate - Shartuul's nuke spell. This is as deadly as Eye of Shartuul's Dark Glare, so this spell should and always be Ice Blocked. There's no definite interval on how often he uses this ability, but if ever he uses it, he will shout an emote "Get ready to be incinerated!...". That should be your signal to switch to Aspect of the Ice and get ready to Ice Block.

Boss Strategy:

At this point, you should be familiar to switching aspects, as you will be switching almost always while fighting Shartuul. As soon as he enters the playing area, get a Siphon Life and a Shadow Nova debuff up on him, then switch to Flame aspect. Start stacking up Flame Buffets and hit him with Pyroblasts while waiting for the Flame Buffet spell to cooldown. When he applies the Shadow Resonance debuff or Immolate on you, cleanse it immediately.

Keep stacking Flame Buffets and wait for his Incinerate emote. When he emotes for it, switch to Ice aspect and get ready to Ice Block. After reflecting his Incinerate, Ice Leap and get an Iceblast out before switching out to Shadow aspect again. Cast Death Blast on Shartuul and wait till the Siphon Life gets consumed. Reapply Siphon Life and cast Shadow Nova on the area near Shartuul to clear out the eye stalks. Switch over to Flame aspect and cleanse off debuffs if there are any.

Continue stacking Flame Buffets until you get 10 stacks then Pyroblast away. If ever he replants the eye stalks, change to Shadow aspect and clear the location out with Shadow Nova. Death Blast the Siphon Life off and reapply after it gets consumed. If he emotes his Incinerate spell, switch over to Ice aspect immediately and Ice Block it off. If you can't make it in time and switching to Ice aspect is still on cooldown, just take the damage and get ready to heal up later.

Whenever you get a debuff, change to Flame aspect immediately and cleanse it off. You should be adapting to the situation when you need to change aspects. If you have a debuff, change to Flame aspect and cleanse immediately. If he's about to cast Incinerate, switch to Ice aspect and Ice Block the incoming Incinerate. If he replants eye stalks, switch over to Shadow aspect, Shadow Nova the area, Death Blast and reapply Siphon Life after getting healed.

This boss fight is all about switching to forms depending on the situation. If you still have high enough health and he replants eye stalks while you still have debuffs, cleanse them all off first before clearing the area with Shadow Nova. Cleansing debuffs is more important than the Mind Flays, and Ice Blocking Incinerate is more important than anything else.

If ever your health drops down too low (around 30-40% or so), setup a full heal by getting a Siphon Life up, then using Chaos Strike, then finishing off with a massive heal with a Death Blast right after doing a Chaos Strike with a Siphon Life debuff up. Once you're back to full health, repeat the process and reapply Siphon Life, then cleansing when needed. You should be in Aspect of the Flame more often and longer than being in any other aspect, since this is the only aspect where you can attack Shartuul with Pyroblasts while cleansing any debuffs he places on you. Keep your focus and continue the routine, and you'll defeat Shartuul eventually.

Rewards

Every after transferring control to a new demon, you will get Apexis Shards. The first transfer is 20 Apexis Shards, while the second and final transfer is 40 Shards. Killing Shartuul gets you a random depleted item, plus a random loot plus a little cash. If you're lucky, you can get an epic ring from him. You can basically get a chance off Shartuul every day, depending on your luck on the Darkrune / Darkrune Fragments. This can be an easy way to make money, for selling these Bind-on-Equip items directly, or just sharding them and selling / keeping the shard. Good luck on your Shartuul attempts!
