The Complete Guide Gold Making in the Auction House
Everything You Could Ever Want to Know
Please Note: In order to get the full effects of this guide, you will need to download and implement the World of Warcraft external mod Auctioneer. One place you can find this mod is: Curse Gaming or Curse (please click to follow link!)
Your very own Skryer Enchantress here, and I have something way awesome to go over with you. I know gold making guides are in big demand out there, and I have come across some information that is really going to help you make huge amounts of World of Warcraft gold.
Before I begin, I want to emphasize something very important. If you want to make a ton of gold in World of Warcraft, you have to do work, and you have to do it over and over again. I am not saying you have to work very hard, because you do not really have to do much work at all. This is all pretty easy, to be honest. You do not even have to work a whole lot. I would say that about 15 minutes of your day is sufficient enough, if that is all the time you want to put in. However, you absolutely must be consistent and keep at it every day.
This strategy is all about carrying out the steps and following them through. A lot of people skim through a guide and think they learned something but then fail to follow through and take action. You cannot do that with this guide. You really need to understand what I am telling you to make it work. So feel free to read this guide, then read over it again if you would like. I will try to make it as clear and concise as possible, but, you know me – I tend to be a little wordy.
Part One: The Overview
There are many ways to make gold in World of Warcraft that all of us are aware of. Some of those things include grinding, selling items from your crafting professions or gathering materials, daily quests and normal quests, and so on and so forth.
However, none are nearly as effective as the real life strategy, which is "Reselling" or "Buying Low and Selling High". In the real world, that is how it works, and World of Warcraft has a pretty active economy, making this a good strategy to apply to the game as well.
This strategy can be applied to any other Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. I have heard claims that by using this simple and effective solution to making gold, people in World of Warcraft have accumulated thousands upon thousands of gold over their gaming career while dedicating only thirty minutes a day to the execution.
With the money that you can make from a guide like this, you should be able to keep yourself in the best superior and epic items for a long time to come, and even be able to do the same for your friends and your alts. People that thing grinding is the only solution can rejoice over the fact that with these skills and this knowledge, they will no longer have to spend copious amounts of time killing things over and over. Instead, they can use my ideas and strategies here while letting other people grind their time away.
Now let’s get to it!
Part Two: Mods
First you need to download and install a few indispensable tools. These tools include:
Auctioneer
Auctioneer is included with many of the UI mods you may already be using, but if you do not have it, go download it! You can find a link for the mod at the top of this guide or Curse Gaming or Curse. It is by and large the single most important tool to have for making gold in World of Warcraft.
The function of this mod is that Auctioneer scans the Auction House and records all of the items and their prices into a searchable database for you. This allows you to do two things:
1) Spot items that are listed for too low of a price.
2) Buy said items and resell for a profit.
CTMail
The CT Mail Mod allows you to auto-open all the mail in your mailbox. Very handy when you are dealing with 100+ emails a day with gold from sold auctions, items to re-list from expired auctions, and items from new purchases. You can find it Here.
LootLink
LootLink stores clickable links to every item that is ever linked in public channels or on people that you inspect. It is very handy for getting links to rare items to add to your Shopping List. You may bring up the lootlink window once it is installed by typing /ll or /lootlink . You may find this mod at WoWInterface.
Linkeratior
Linkeratior is a good alternative to LootLink also. You may find it Here. It keeps track of links that you see, and then to retrieve the link you simply type the text version of it. For example you would type [krol blade] and on your screen would actually appear [Krol Blade] as a clickable link!
Installing Mods!
In order to install any of these mods in World of Warcraft, all you have to do is unzip them into: C:\\Program Files\\World of Warcraft\\Interface\\Addons or wherever you have World of Warcraft installed.
If the addon does not appear when you log into your World of Warcraft account, you probably do not have it unzipped into the correct location. Check and make sure it is in the addons directory and that it is on your addons menu on the character selection screen.
If you get an error saying that you do not have enough memory to run the mod, then do the following: Log into World of Warcraft and at the character selection screen click the "Addons" button. Then in the upper right hand corner, discern the box labeled "Script Memory(MB)". The default number should be around 48. Change it to a few MBs higher than what it is set for. For instance, set it to 64MB for example. Then click on OK and try to log in again.
MACRO KEYS
You should have the following macro keys set up:
/auctioneer broker 500
/auctioneer broker 100
What these will allow you to do is quickly check for buyouts with a 5 gold, and 1 gold profit respectively, these can be pressed even during a scan and if you see something worth buying you can stop the scan and buy it. The number is in silver so 100 = 100silver = 1 gold.
If you are not familiar with the process of how to make a macro, here is how you create a one: From the main menu click macros or type /macro. Click "New", give it a name and icon, then in the commands box type the "/auctioneer broker XXX" command. Where XXX is the number of silver".
Part Three: The General Strategy
This is a step by step guide for what to do. I strongly recommend that you read it once, and then read it again after you have finished the entire guide. The general idea is to scan the Auction House, buy the items which are listed below the average selling price, and then re-list them for a profit. Here is how you go about it.
Make a level 1 character and give Him/Her a catchy name that may grab people’s attention in chat or the Auction.
If you have enough money to do so at this point, go ahead and buy some 14 or 16 slot bags. If you do not, do not worry. You can work your way up to that when you are rolling in gold later on.
Go and plant your character in the Auction house.
Set up your shopping list. I will address this later on.
Open up the auction window
Uncheck the categories: Container, Consumable, Projectile, and Quiver as things in those categories generally do not produce good profits and just slow down your scans.
Press the scan button and wait for it to finish. This can take a while, so be patient.
For the first few days, the best thing to do is scan with Auctioneer as many times as you can through the day at different times. After a dozen or so scans across a span of 2 or 3 days auctioneer will begin to accumulate enough data to give you a somewhat accurate idea of pricing information. Good days to scan would be Monday night, late, and Sunday during the evening.
Next, once you think you have accumulated enough scans to have good enough pricing data you can start searching for good buys.
I search for good deals 2 ways: One way; You create a macro: /auctioneer broker 500. This is a quick button you can click at any time and see everything that is listed at least 5g too low. You can do whatever amount of gold you would like to. Remember that 100 = 1g. OR, you can also use the Search Auctions Tab in the AH window. This is installed by the Auctioneer add-on.
Check your /auctioneer broker 500 hotkey results
Now, check your shopping list report.
On the Search Auctions' tab in AH search for:
° Buyouts with percent less 80% and minimum profit 50 silver.
° Buyouts with percent less 50% and minimum profit 1gold.
° Bids (short / medium) with percent less 80% and minimum profit 5silver.
° Bids (short / medium) with percent less 50% and minimum profit 1gold.
You should have about six searches saved so you can run them all quickly in a row, starting with the 1 gold profit searches first.
As you begin to make more money you can search for higher profit items only as the smaller profit items will not be worth the effort then. For example you may choose to usually search:
° Buyouts with percent less 90% and minimum profit 2 gold.
° Buyouts with percent less 50% and minimum profit 5 gold.
° Buyouts with percent less 25% and minimum profit 10 gold.
° Bids (short / medium) with percent less 90% and minimum profit 2 gold.
° Bids (short / medium) with percent less 50% and minimum profit 5 gold.
° Bids (short / medium) with percent less 25% and minimum profit 10 gold.
Then, if you do not find many items in those searches, you should fall back to your lower profit searches and pick up a few more items there.
You can tweak these numbers and percents as you see fit. Anything that works for you is what you should do!
Now, buyout all the good deals, and head off to the mailbox to pick them up.
Come back to the Auction House and re-list them for more in AH. Read the rest of this guide for exact guidelines on what to buy and how to sell. You have to use common sense and some guidelines when choosing what to buy. In general when you are just starting out stick with low level items. Remember, all of this can be a gamble. You need to be persistent to make sure you are doing what is right for your server’s economy in particular!
When you start to accumulate a lot of items, which may be as low as thirty or sometimes as high as over 100 items in Auction House at a given time, it is helpful to leave the expired ones in your mailbox until you are ready to re-list all of the items at once. This will make it so that you only have to empty your mailbox and list items once a day, rather than every time you are at the mailbox. This will make your life a lot simpler once you have a large inventory of products going in and out.
Run these scans as often as you can, because the more you scan the more money you will make. I generally scan 3 times a day on weekdays: Once when I wake up and let it run while I shower. Once when I get home from work or while I eat dinner, and once right before I go to bed. Scan more if you can, remember it only costs you about 30 seconds of your time to log in and start a scan you can go do something else while it scans.
To remain time efficient, always keep your character either at the mailbox, or in front of an auctioneer. That is why you made a level 1 alt for this, so that you are always ready to go when you log in! Time means money, friend!
Part Four: Specific Buying Parameters
Run scans as often as possible: The more scans you run the better your data will be, and the more deals you will be able to find! Also scan at non-peak times to find deals that others may miss. Scan many times during peak times if you can because many items get listed every minute on popular servers.
Bid on Tuesdays before the servers go down: Get your bid in before the server goes down on items with short or even medium durations left and you will have a better chance of winning them. Right before the servers go down is the best time to do it!
Scan late Sunday night and early Monday morning: These are some of the best times to pick up some cheap deals because for some reason or another everyone lists all the items they found over the weekend late Sunday night or early Monday morning. Not only are there a large amount of items for sale, but lots of competition so people will list their items cheaper in order to undercut each other. This is great for people like you because you can buy up the under priced items then wait until a later, better time to sell them for a profit.
Sell on Sunday: I am not sure why, but Sunday is by far the best day to sell. For some reason a lot of people do their AH shopping on Sunday. Maybe it is just because more people log-in on Sundays so more items get bought. But whatever the reason happens to be, Sundays are great for selling items. By Monday morning, you are likely to have a mailbox full of gold.
Make offers to people auctioning their items in the trade channel: If you happen to see a particularly good item in a trade channel that you know will sell well make the seller an offer that is lower than what you know you can sell it for in AH. You should usually offer anywhere from 50% to 75% of what you can sell it for depending on the item. Do not waste too much time haggling with them, just make them an offer, and if they refuse don not worry about it as there are plenty more deals to be had out there. Also many times a seller who has rejected my offer will message me some time later and ask me if I still want the item for what I offered because they have not had luck selling it and they just want to get rid of it. Take the offer if it is still good.
Manually search for items!: Here is where you can really make some money, after you have done the Auctioneer thing, and all the good deals have been bought up, there are some other actions you can take to ensure maximum profits. This is really where you can make money, so pay attention!
Personal Testimonial: I was bored one day with doing the same old Auctioneer scan deal, so I decided to try something new and exciting. I determined myself to find something that I could buy fairly cheep that I felt was undervalued on the general market. While power leveling rogue self, Hyacintha, one day I perceived that the biggest help in my killing ability and power was having the best daggers I could get for my level. I also noticed that a lot of people were making Twink rogues. Therefore, I went to the Auction House and bought up every green dagger between the levels of 10-19 that had agility and attack power, since these are undeniably the most desirable for a low level rogue who wants to kill quickly. They were selling anywhere from 5 silver to 50 silver on the server. I re-listed them all for 1 gold and 99 silver. Furthermore, every time I was in the Auction House, I would buy up all the lower priced daggers than mine. Mine began to sell pretty quickly.
Within a week or so, I had managed to increase the average price to 2 gold and 99 silver for “of power” and “of agility” daggers, and was now buying up all the other alternative green daggers such as +strength and +stamina and was listing them at 1 gold and 99 silver. They nearly always sell. Since the re-listing fee is insignificant, I can list them as many times as it takes in order for them to sell. In fact, if I somehow wind up getting a surplus of a certain type of dagger, I usually just vendor them instead. Since I buy then for around 10 silver, it is better to just buy them all up and vendor them and loose a few silver, and have someone buy yours for 2 gold 99 silver instead. You are still making a huge profit no matter what.
If you do something like this, you will want to move on to other green level 10-19 items following the same idea:
° Level 10-19 green cloth: “of the eagle”; listing them all for 1g99s to 2g99s.
° Level 1-19 green leather “of the monkey”, “of agility”, “of power”; listing them all for 2g99s or more. You may be able to sell a +5 “of the monkey legs” or +4 “of the monkey gloves” for well over 10 gold a pair.
° 10-19 green rings “of the monkey”, “of the eagle”, “of the bear”, and so on as well as Blood rings, Demon Bands, and Ring of the Moon; buying them all up and re-listing them for anywhere from 5g for a +2 stat ring to 19g for a +3 “of the monkey” or “of the eagle” ring.
° Do not list things with irrelevant stats. People will not buy them!
Another idea that works pretty well is to use the fact that people play hunters a lot and that they need gear as they level up. Therefore level 40-50 green MAIL, not leather, “of the Monkey”, “of agility”, and “of attack power”. At level 40 hunters can begin to wear chain mail and this means that they need to upgrade all their gear starting at 40. Using this opportunity, you will want to buy up all the 40+ green mail gear that has good hunter stats and then follow up by re-listing it for higher prices. If you keep buying up all the cheaper alternatives that get listed the hunters have no choice but to pay your prices, which they will because they are excited about getting to wear chain so they will be very likely to impulse buy.
Feel free to try new things if you can come up with your own ideas following the same idea. A few examples would be to look for 40+ plate “of the bear” armor for warriors, or 40+ mail gear with stats for healing, spell damage, or enhancement for shamans.
In reality, it does not really matter what item you choose as long as you know there is a demand for it. Keep in mind however that you must remain extremely diligent in buying up all the lower competition and re-listing them. You could even do this with rare or uncommonly seen trade goods or anything else that you see fit.
Use caution when purchasing any 40+ blues, especially weapons: Use the best of you decision making skills before buying up too many 40+ blue items. Be sure that you are going to be able to sell the item for a decent profit because the Auction House listing fees on 40+ blue items can be extremely and sometimes unreasonably high. Some higher level blue weapons can have listing fees of several gold. Therefore, you should only buy high level blues if you know that the item has a very or decently high demand and that you will be able to make a profit even if you have to list it a few times, due to the high cost of re-listing the item each time.
Also use caution when buying epic items: The same principle applies to epics. Generally speaking, they have high listing fees, and the auctioneer data may be distorted because of a plethora of overpriced epics that have been sitting in Auction House for weeks or even months. Therefore, practice caution when buying epic items. I would suggest that you only get involved with epics once you have plenty of experience and gold reserves on hand in case something goes wrong. Unless you are 100% sure that it happens to be a killer deal, just do not bother. If you do see something that really stands out to you, do not hesitate to buy it.
How much gold to reserve versus how much to invest: In the beginning, you should buy up every good deal you see and you should not worry about having gold in reserve. As you start to accumulate gold however you will find that you cannot spend it all because there are not enough good buys on Auction House to spend it on. At that point you will probably be buying items and mounts for your other characters anyway and consequently spending gold on other things. Once you reach that point you should always keep at least several thousand gold on your Auction House character at all times. You never know when someone is going to list an enchanting item really cheap or a stack of primals. This is exactly what you want to look for. Imagine someone puts up a stack of Large Prismatic Shards for only five gold a piece and they usually sell on your server for 20 gold. This is the time to buy and make a huge profit! Keep on it!
Part Five: How to Sell
Sell on Sunday: Sunday is by far the best day to sell. As I have stated several times, for some reason a lot of people do their Auction House shopping on Sunday. Maybe it is just because more people log-in on Sundays, so more items get bought and sold or maybe it is something else altogether. At any rate, whatever the reason is, Sundays are great for selling your items. You should always have a mailbox full of gold by Monday morning if things go well.
Listing fees and durations: Always list your items for 24 hours, as the fee is not that much more in comparison. This allows for more people see the item and it subsequently makes it to where you only have to list the item once per day.
Always use the buyout option!: Always, always, always set a buyout. If you do not do this simple little thing, you will miss out on 99% of your sales. People want instant gratification, and also a buyout scares people into impulse buying because they feel that someone else could buyout the auction at any moment. With just bids and no buyout people know they have hours to think about it and often decide they do not really need to spend all that gold on that item today. So make sure you do this!!!
Stack size: A lot of times you will end up buying stackable items either in small stacks, such as 2 or 3 at a time, or you may end up with stacks with about 17 or 18 items in them. This is not the best way to sell stackable items as people have to do the math to figure out if it is a good deal. Therefore I recommend that you use the following guidelines:
In general, if you have enough to combine into a stack of 10 or 20, you should do that because it is a nice even number and people can easily figure out if the price is good.
If you only have a few of the item (like 3 or 4) split them up and list them as singles. This may work better as people may only need one or two pieces here and there of whatever it is.
Some items are needed in specific quantities for quests or trade skills. These are the exceptions where it may be beneficial to list them in those strange numbered quantities. An example is enchanting supplies that are generally required in quantities of 3 or some other number for most high level enchants. So, for example, if someone else has them listed for 50 gold singly, and you have 3 for 150 gold, odds have it that your stack of three will be purchased because someone probably needs that number. First of all, they will be looking for that number as they think, ‘I need three of this’ or so on, and its less clicking for them to buy your stack versus several others to combine.
7's & 9's rule: Always try to list your items using 7's and 9's. Here I will explain. If the item usually sells for around 10 gold, you should list it with a min bid of 7 gold 77 silver and a buyout of 9 gold and 99 silver. Never list anything for 10 gold or 20 gold, or so on, but instead, always 9 gold, 99silver or 19 gold, 99 silver. It is only 1 silver difference, but it makes people feel like it is so much cheaper. It is the same principal as all those TV commercials or car lots that sell stuff for $19.95 or $13,999. To people, the fact that it does not break the higher number seems to make them feel as if it a lot less expensive than it really is.
In some cases, if the item is worth only 15 gold, but there is no competition in the Auction House at the time you may just list it for 17 gold, 77 silver, with a buyout of 19 gold, 99 silver. People see 17 gold and think, “17 is about the same as 15, and 19 gold is only 2 more gold that that. I really want it so, I will just go ahead and buy it.” They just paid 20 gold for a 15 gold item. That equates to a 33% markup. They probably would not have bought the item had you listed it for 20 gold.
Now, keep in mind, if you had listed the same item for 13 gold and 14 gold, 99 silver, they most likely would have bought it as well. Use your own opinions. That is a judgment call you will have to make on an item to item basis based on how much competition there is, how much you paid for it, and how badly you need to sell it for whatever reason, like because the listing fee is high or you need the money. Personally, I do not like to put myself in situations where I feel pressure to sell an item immediately. Really, the best way to avoid that problem is to stay away from the higher level items with demand you are unsure about.
Undercutting minimum bids: When most people search specifically for an item they sort the results based on lowest price first. Be careful to never set your minimum bid below the minimum price you can sell the item for or you could loose money if someone bids on the item and the auction ends with that bid.
Part 6: How to start with no money at level 1
Use searches that will find lower priced items to buy: People ask me all the time, "What if I don't have any money to start with?" Well, I say, I started with about 1 gold. You should be able to start with even less, now. After making this affirmation, I decided to test it out myself. I started another character at level 1 with 0 gold just to see how difficult it would be for me to turn a profit. I killed a few mobs on my way to the main city. I ended up hitting level three, sold all of the different items I had collected to a vendor, and had 3 silver total. It does not sound like much, but I thought to myself, “So now what can I get for 3 silver and turn a profit?”
I used Auctioneer to do a few scans, then I did a search for items that cost a low amount of money.
Right away, I bought up a small stack of enchanting supplies, split them up to singles, and sold them for a higher amount each. Now I was sitting at over 70 silver which in essence is almost a whole gold. And, I was only at level 3 within an hour or two of creating the character.
Later you can do buyouts with a percent that is less than 80% and minimum profit 20 silver which may have the chance to yield for good results.
As you can see there are several items here which you can buy for a few silver and make
a robust profit, principally rings or items that people do not realize will be good for twinking and such. Some twink items may sell for as little as two gold, and some may sell for several hundred.
So say you buy a twink ring and cloak and you spend around 25-30 silver, then you turn around and I sell the two items for a total of 2 gold and 50 silver. You are now sitting at just under 3 gold! Keep in mind that in this situation, you are probably only level 3 and have gone from a few silver to a few gold in a matter of a few mere transactions. That is very impressive!
You can change the numbers till you find something, try lowering the minimum profit, or try lowering the percent less numbers a little until you find something that looks good to you! As I always say, use your good judgment.
Part 7: Important Things to Consider
REMEMBER! Auctioneer is in no way definitive or perfect at what it does!: Auctioneer is not a fail safe or a win all. It is simply a tool to help you sort through the 1,000's of auctions in the auction house everyday. If you trust the scan results of auctioneer 100 % and buy up everything that it says is too cheap, you will loose money pretty darn quick. The key to using Auctioneer is to use your common sense to narrow those choices down to make smart purchases. If you read this guide, run Auctioneer, and then buy up everything that it says is cheap, you are going to loose money, and that is a fact. Do not do this.
Run lots of scans, and use some common sense in what you purchase: In the following sections after this, I will try to give you a run down of what type of items I look for. As a rule of thumb just think about the item in general. Ask yourself things like, “Is this item rare?” “Are the stats on it good enough to where people will want to buy it?”
No one will buy items on it with weird stats, like Spirit and Agility, or +resistances but no good stats. You want to be mindful of what people need to use. Low end casters, for example, need Stamina and Intelligence, where as higher casters need Spell Damage. Just be aware of the game mechanics, and you will do fine.
Merge yourself into the process slowly: In the beginning start small, and use caution till you get a feel for the market. I do not recommend jumping right in at all.
Part Eight: Find the Best Items to Sell
You need to make a shopping list of things to look for when you are going out to buy. Rare blues are a good thing to look for. These are the blues that only drop in one instance, and are not world drops. There are only a handful of them, so they may sell very well. World drop epics can be a big hit too.
Rare Blues:
Antenna of Invigoration
Elemental Attuned Blade
Teebu's Blazing Longsword
Recipe: Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops
Pendulum of Doom
Assassin's Blade
Shadowfang
Miner's Hat of the Deep
Expert Goldminer's Helmet
Shovelphlange's Mining Axe
The Jackhammer
Unearthed Bands of Agility, Power, Monkey, etc.
Petrolspill Leggings
Mantle of Thieves
Flintrock Shoulders
Wolfclaw Gloves
Hotshot Pilot's Gloves
Mechbuilder's Overalls
Maiden's Circle
The most valuable epics in the game are going to be very hard to find, and probably even harder to sell. But for the sake of you knowing about them, I will provide a list (and an average worth) here.
Epics:
· Don Santos' Famous Hunting Rifle (1587 gold)
· Staff of Natural Fury (2016 gold)
· Plans: Red Havoc Boots (1800 gold)
· Dirge (2100 gold)
· Lola's Eye (1761 gold)
· Plans: Felsteel Longblade (2039 gold)
· Blessings Deck (2078 gold)
· Plans: Hand of Eternity (1870 gold)
· Furies Deck (1942 gold)
· Blinkstrike (1933 gold)
· Pattern: Girdle of Ruination (3500 gold)
· Belt of Deep Shadow (2799 gold)
· Spinesever (1500 gold)
· Chestguard of Exile (2227 gold)
· Pattern: Gloves of the Living Touch (1716 gold)
· Blade of Wizardry (2014 gold)
Remember to do price checks on your server before you try and sell anything for the amounts I mentioned. These will vary from server to server. Keep an eye on things using your auctioneer scans, and you will really know what you expect from your individual server.
Keep in mind this is not nearly all of them, merely just some examples to get ideas rolling. Remember that rare blues are a big hit, as are Bind on Equip world drop epics that are very rarely seen. I remember personally paying 400G for a Glowing Brightwood Staff because I wanted it so bad!
You may also want to look for cross-faction patterns, items, pets or whatever else you can think of. There are several patterns, pets or other items out there that are only available to either Alliance or Horde. These can be purchased at vendors and if you can get them to the other faction’s Auction House you can mark them up hundreds of percent. It is important to do your research and know what is rare and what is not. Try and find things few people know about.
For example an alliance only pattern that costs around 50 silver and sells very well Horde side for 50 gold or more on some servers is the Pattern: Red Whelp Gloves.
Other patterns and recipes that are exclusive to the Alliance are [Plans: Golden Scale Gauntlets], [Plans: Heavy Copper Longsword], [Plans: Ironforge Breastplate], [Schematic: Blue Firework], [Pattern: Black Whelp Cloak], [Pattern: Black Whelp Tunic], [Pattern: Herbalist's Gloves], [Pattern: Moonglow Vest], [Pattern: Raptor Hide Belt], and [Pattern: Bright Yellow Shirt].
For the Horde, exclusive patterns include [Recipe: Discolored Healing Potion], [Plans: Barbaric Iron Boots], [Plans: Barbaric Iron Breastplate], [Plans: Barbaric Iron Gloves], [Plans: Barbaric Iron Helm], [Plans: Barbaric Iron Shoulders], [Formula: Enchant Chest - Lesser Mana], [Schematic: Red Firework], [Pattern: Kodo Hide Bag], and [Pattern: Raptor Hide Harness].
To get a hold of this item you will either need to have a friend with an account on the other faction, be on a non-PvP server, or have a second account yourself. Have the friend, or yourself buy the item and list it for 1 copper or something similar in one of the several neutral Auction Houses and then proceed to buy it and list it in your factions Auction House for whatever amount that you would like.
You will of course want to focus on getting items that will be used frequently, such as PvP specific armor pieces that twinks will want to use.
Trade/Crafting Items
There are many hard to come by tradeskill goods that usually are not on the Auction House much or are very expensive because they come from raid zones/bosses or hard to get to mobs. They are certainly worth putting on your shopping list and keeping an eye on, especially once your get a good stash of gold. Or, you may choose to farm for some of them.

[Nightmare Vine]
[Primal Might]
[Fiery Core]
[Lava Core]
The list goes on. Any type of skins, herbs, ore, gems and so on, may be turned for a profit at any given time.
An important one to cover is gems. Some gems sell for a lot. The most valuable gems are any blue or purple BOE, crafted or uncrafted, such as Living Ruby, Dawnstone, Nightseye, and Crimson Spinnel.
Rare Tradeskill Patterns
There are some rare tradeskill patterns that you should keep an eye out for as they can sell for quite a bit of money.
For Jewelcrafting you have, Design: Mystical Skyfire Diamond, Design: Thundering Skyfire Diamond, Design: Solid Star of Elune, Design: Destructive Skyfire Diamond, Design: Brutal Earthstorm Diamond, Design: Great Dawnstone, Design: Wicked Noble Topaz, Design: Tenacious Earthstorm Diamond, Design: Veiled Noble Topaz, Design: Teardrop Living Ruby, Design: Runed Living Ruby, Design: Glowing Nightseye, and so on. Each of these may sell for upwards of 400 gold. Sometimes even more.
For enchanting recipes you have things like Formula: Enchant Boots - Cat's Swiftness, Formula: Enchant Boots - Vitality, Formula: Enchant Weapon - Potency, Formula: Enchant Weapon - Spellsurge, Formula: Enchant Chest - Major Resilience, Formula: Enchant Boots - Boar's Speed, Formula: Enchant Weapon - Battlemaster, Formula: Enchant Shield - Shield Block, Formula: Enchant Chest - Greater Stats, and Formula: Enchant Cloak - Major Resistance. Each of these can turn a profit if you can find someone who lists it way too low.
For alchemy there are Recipe: Elixir of Major Mageblood, Recipe: Haste Potion, Recipe: Heroic Potion, Recipe: Flask of Distilled Wisdom, Recipe: Elixir of Empowerment, Recipe: Flask of Chromatic Resistance, and Recipe: Flask of Supreme Power. Rule of thumb has it that flasks are very valuable.
Items With No Listing Fee
Some items have NO listing fee. Enchanting supplies are a good example and they are the most common. Therefore, dusts, essences, and shards have absolutely no listing fee, which is good because it means you can re-list them over and over and not loose money. These are GREAT items for people who are just starting in their gold earning career because you can start with the lower level ones which are cheap and you can re-list them without loosing any money at all. Also you can list them for only slightly more than you paid because you do not have to worry about fees or about turning a profit. Anything more is essentially going to help you.
One word of advice I can give you about buying enchanting supplies is to buy on the weekends or when you notice a large amount of them in Auction House, and then sell them in the middle of the week when supplies are dwindling.
TWINK ITEMS
Twinks are a huge source of money for most people. While I doubt anyone reading this would be unaware of what a twink is, I shall cover it just in case. A twink, for those of you that do not know, is generally a level 19, 29, 39, 49, 59, or 69 char (top of each battlegrounds level bracket) that is decked out in the best blues/purples that money can buy or can be obtained through instances or quests. The most common twink brackets are the 19, 29, and 39 however, and they generally have level 70 enchants on every slot that they can get. They are usually funded by their mains or guilds, and their singular goal is to be the most decked out baddies in the battlegrounds so that they can dominate everyone else. They generally stay at that level for months or indefinitely just to govern that bracket. Many people have one of each of the 3 levels for each bracket.
Once you start making gold you will be able to make twinks too if you choose, however the reason we are talking about them now is because they will buy certain gear from you for ridiculous prices. I know a lot of other guides say no level 19 will pay 200 gold for a level 19 blue. However, I have found that that is just in fact UNTRUE. Level 19's repeatedly pay 50-200g for level 19 blues. There are a list of these items to look for below. Keep in mind there are TONS. You can do Auction House searches to find more.

Twink greens
Some level 10-19 greens sell for 5 gold or sometimes even 10 gold or more simply because they are the best items you can get for those slots period, even from the Auction House, instances, quests or otherwise. Here are just a couple of examples.
· Bristlebark Gloves
· Forest Leather Bracers
· Red Whelp Gloves (On Horde side they are very valuable, because it is an Alliance only pattern)
· Low Level Rings: Ring of the Eagle, Monkey, Bear, Agility; Blood Ring; Demon Band; Ring of the Moon; and so on. Good low level rings always seem to sell well because lower levels always seem to have empty ring slots to fill. Also because for twinking, they are generally better than the blue instance dropped or quest rings for some classes.
· Some shoulders may sell well as this is about the level where they can first be used. Keep an eye out for them.
Here are a couple of searches to run without using auctioneer. I just use the standard Auction House search box:
1) Level 2 - 19 rare all categories. Sort lowest price first, omitting level 1 skips over all tradeskill items and leaves us only with blue weapons, and armor below level 19. Since it is sorted lowest price first, we can immediately see if there are any items listed very cheaply. Here is an example to show you: Say you entered 2 and 19 in the level box, selected rare from the rarity box, clicked search, and finally made sure it was properly ordered by price so that you can look. You see that Keller's Girdle is listed for way too low as it actually sells for closer to 20 gold most of the time, so you decide that you will buy it and re-list it at 19 gold for a great profit! Simple as that!
2) Level 1 - 19 rings of any quality sorted by price. Same idea here. It is an easy way to find good twink rings, especially with some of the new jewelcrafting items.
3) Level 1 - 19 daggers sorted by price. Look for cheap of Agility, Power, and Monkey daggers. This saves you the time of searching for them one by one!
4) Level 1-19 one handed swords. I usually buy of the Tiger, Monkey, Agility, and Power. You will find that the level 19 decapitating swords are especially valuable as they usually sell for 3 or 4 gold.
Part Nine: Tips for the Future
As we all know, a new expansion will hit in the future. And from there, another one will likely hit. The only tips that I can give you are these.
Update your mods: Without current up to date mods, you will have a lot of trouble when new games hit trying to do the same old things. This is a tip for any future patches too. Always make sure that the mods helping you make money are capable of functioning right!
Do your reading: Read up on the tradeskills that are going to come out with new expansions. For example, with Wrath of the Lich King, a lot of people will be taking up the new Inscription tradeskill. When ANY information hits as to what kinds of things Inscription will need, BUY those things and stock up on them while they are still cheap. Check forums, but make sure they are valid, for any test realms or beta testers that have gotten their paws on this information. Some items may not yet be available in the game, but some are certain to. The same goes for any new class that would be added to the game. Be sure to pick up any armor they might need so you can turn a profit at a later time.
Never expect: You cannot be certain that anything will ever go your way. World of Warcraft’s economy will always be in a never ebbing pattern of shifts and changes. This is to be expected as it is quite like any other economy.
Thank you for reading, and have fun making money!
